BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Municipality of Bontoc received a cash prize of ₱50,000.00 for securing 2nd place in the 3rd Mountain Province Rescue Olympics.
In addition, the team was awarded “Best in Chant,” receiving an additional cash prize of ₱5,000.00.
The team, along with Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., Municipal Administrator Eric Fulangen, Sr., and LDRRMO II Meilynne Shalom Ayan, received the awards on July 29, 2024, at the Provincial Plaza.
The community volunteer-trained responders who represented Bontoc were Jose Co, Jr., Earl Ola, Johnny Angitag, Jr., Kharlsen Fanged, Vivian Khayog, Geryll Dupilpil, Shamalex Agwilang, Amber Guway Fatongkeg, Tay-og Angitag, Harvey Lingbanan, Arlene Nasungan, and Chester Kalang-ad. Their coach was Fire Officer I Donald Pachao from the Bontoc Municipal Fire Station (MFS).
In an interview, Mayor Tudlong lauded the team and their coach for their outstanding display of teamwork, skills, and dedication.
“Their commitment and effort have brought great honor to our municipality. We are immensely proud of what they have achieved. This success is not just a reflection of their hard work but also of the spirit of our entire community. It shows that with determination, collaboration, and the right guidance, we can achieve remarkable things,” he added.
The Bontoc Team achieved a total score of 89.1%, while the Municipality of Tadian, the competition winner, scored 90.05%.
The event, held on July 17, 2024, was organized by the Provincial Government of Mountain Province through its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. The competition showcased seven contested events including Patient Extrication and Packaging, BLS-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Patient Transport (Emergency Carries), Flammable Liquid Fire Extinguishment, Hose Laying and Replacement of Busted Hose, Community Fire Busters, and Quiz Bee.
