BONTOC, Mountain Province – Provincial Administrator Franklin C. Odsey representing Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. together with the parents and guardians, sent off the participants from the Bontoc Defenders Taekwondo team who will be participating in the 2024 Smart/MVP sports Foundation Luzon Interschool Taekwondo Championships at the Narciso Ramos Sports Complex Gymnasium, Lingayen, Pangasinan held from August 10-11, 2024.
Odsey wished the participants good luck and expressed the provincial government’s support and prayers, and told the participants to do their best in the competitions.
The team was accompanied by coaches/trainers, David G. Fagkangan and Police Master Sergeant Benjamin S. Chumacog. According to Fagkangan, 24 players will be joining the event and some of them will be participating in the poomsae while others will be competing in the kyorugi or sparring. The team is composed of 21 elementary students of Saint Vincent’s School, Mountain Province Special Education Center, Balili Elementary School, Dantay Elementary School, All Saints Mission School, and Samoki Elementary School. For the three secondary students, one currently studying at the Saint Vincent’s School-High School Department and two are from the Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School.
Edward Equetan, Jr., a Taekwondo coach informed that for poomsae, both kids and cadet will be competing in their belt category. In kyorugi, kids under novice and advance will compete in their respective height and age. Meanwhile, cadets under novice and advance will be competing in their respective weight for the kyorugi.
According to some parents, they allowed their kids to join the event for exposure, for them to make friends and observe other players from the different regions of the Philippines who will be competing. By TFF
