BONTOC, Mountain Province – To improve government health services, the municipal government through the Municipal Health Office (MHO), conducted a seminar-workshop titled “Rollout Training for Bontoc Health Workers on National Immunization Program” from June 26 to 28, 2024, at the Municipal Auditorium.
The primary goal of the training is to enhance immunization coverage, aiming for a vaccine preventable diseases-free municipality. The program is designed to update barangay health workers (BHWs), midwives, and members of the Human Resources for Health Network Philippines, as well as MHO staff, on the latest vaccines and immunization protocols implemented by the MHO.
Nurse Oliver Gacusana, Coordinator for the National Immunization Program, stated that the MHO strives to achieve 95% coverage of fully immunized children in the municipality.
Gacusana emphasized the importance of immunizing children with vital vaccines, including the Oral Polio Vaccine, Pneumococcal Vaccines, and Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccines, to ensure their healthy development. He also noted the necessity of vaccinations for senior citizens, highlighting the importance of flu and pneumococcal vaccines for their well-being.
The MHO urges the public to participate in this initiative by visiting their respective Barangay Health Stations to receive free vaccinations.
Meanwhile, the fund for the conduct of the training came from United Nations Children’s Fund in partnership with Relief International, a non-political health organization that partners with communities in fragile settings to save lives and build resilience, dignity and long-term well-being.
