BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) turned over a Level II Potable Water System under its Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) to Barangay Talubin, Bontoc on August 26, 2022.
The worth 5.56-million-peso project was funded by the national government thru the DA and loan proceeds from the World Bank and 10% counterpart from the municipal government to solve the inadequate water supply problem of the barangay and reduce cost of morbidity due to water-borne illnesses.
The ceremonial inauguration and turnover were led by DA-CAR- Regional Field Office Executive Director Cameron P. Odsey, Bontoc Mayor Jerome B. Tudlong, Jr. and Talubin Barangay Captain Veteriano L. Dulay. Standing as witnesses during the ceremony were Bontoc Vice Mayor Eusebio S. Kabluyen, Executive Assistant Winston V. Calde representing Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., Political Affairs Officer Dionisio Wadisen representing Cong. Maximo Y. Dalog, Jr. and Mountain Province Agriculture Program Coordinating Officer Beverly T. Pekas.
In his message, Director Odsey emphasized on the shared responsibilities among all the stakeholders and beneficiaries to take good care of the finished waterworks project which will provide the residents with access to clean and safe water supply. He also shared the programs of the DA that continue to benefit the local farmers.
Mayor Tudlong thanked the DA for bringing the project to the municipality and urged the community and the concerned local governments to protect the sources of water for the next generations to benefit from it.
Moreover, the representatives from the province’s top officials expressed their delight and support to the completion of the project which will reinforce the programs and services of the local governments.
Meanwhile, during a separate occasion, Director Odsey turned-over a hauling/delivery vehicle from the enhanced KADIWA program of the DA amounting to 2 million pesos to the municipal governments thru Mayor Tudlong as grant to enhance the capacities of the farmers’ cooperatives and associations to transport agricultural produce to the market.
