BONTOC, Mountain Province – Elective officials and employees of the Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) recently underwent a one-day Seminar-Workshop on Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace with Effective Customer Service.
To ensure continuity of services in the offices of the Bontoc LGU and compliance with the health protocols, the participants were divided into three groups which were scheduled on September 6-8, 2022, at the Multi-Purpose Building.
In his message, Bontoc Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., recognized the need for capacity development and intervention among the workforce in the organization for them to effectively and efficiently serve the public.
Tudlong remarked that the topics in the seminar-workshop are of great importance to the officials and employees as it promotes overall mental wellness and provides an inclusive, conducive, and supportive work environment for all public servants to ensure a healthy and productive workforce.
The mayor added that in the roadmap of the administration for the next three years, “ENLANGAKHA: Achieving the Vision for a Dynamic Bontoc”, one of its pillars is Good Governance which he assured to continue to invest in human resource development.
The seminar workshop started with a discussion on mental health by Eleonor Batnag of the Provincial Government of Mountain Province. She is a registered Psychologist and Psychometrician, who is currently the Mental Health Coordinator of the Provincial Health Office.
She shared some of the mental health conditions that people commonly experience. These include stress, depression, and anxiety. To overcome these conditions, Batnag encouraged the participants to maintain healthy mental wellbeing and build a strong resilience which can be achieved by connecting with other people, being physically active, learning new skills, and relaxation.
In connection to Mental Health Awareness in the workplace, she emphasized that having positive wellbeing improves one’s productivity; helps establish good workplace relationships and become more adaptable to changes in the workplace.
Tourism Operations Officer II Tyronne Glenn Peril Lawey of the Provincial Government of Mountain Province focused his lecture on Effective Customer Service and introduced various team-building activities to the participants.
In response, the participants thanked the resource speakers for imparting their knowledge and expertise, and for making the seminar-workshop fun and lively. The participants added that from their regular functions in their respective offices, they gain new learning at the same relax and share happy moments with their co-participants.
The activity was initiated by the Human Resource Management Office of the Bontoc LGU.
