BONTOC, Mountain Province – The municipal government recognized the Bontoc district sports and academic awardees who garnered medals and awards in the 2023 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet and Regional Academic Festival of Talents (RAFT) held at Baguio City on April 29, 2023 until May 1, 2023.
Relative to this, the awardees received certificates of recognition during the Monday Flag Raising on May 15, 2023, at the municipal Capitol grounds.
In his message, Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., lauded the athletes and academic awardees, and their coaches for bringing honor and pride to the municipality and the entire province.
Also, he commended the parents and all stakeholders for their unwavering support to the children.
In an effort to honor and support the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development of students and athletes who bring pride and glory to the municipality and Mountain Province as a whole, Mayor Tudlong issued Executive Order No. 21 series of 2023 which aims to acknowledge and provide financial incentives to individuals who excel and bring home medals or awards from regional and national competitions.
Under the provisions of the executive order, a student or athlete who achieves a gold medal or secures first place in an individual event will receive a cash reward of ₱3,000. Silver medalists who attain second place, will be granted a commendable sum of ₱2,000. Similarly, bronze medalists, securing third place, will receive a cash incentive of ₱1,000.
Team events or categories are also recognized under the executive order, with substantial rewards awaiting successful participants. Gold medalists in team events will be given ₱5,000, while silver and bronze medalists will receive ₱3,000 and ₱2,000, respectively.
Mayor Tudlong expressed his delight in commending all the athletes and expressed hopes that the said cash incentives serve as a token of appreciation which motivate all students to continue striving for excellence both in athletic and academic pursuits.
“It is essential to support and encourage our talented youth, as they bring immense pride to our community,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sangguniang Kabataan Municipal Federation President Sherwin Chamkas announced that the Sangguniang Bayan of Bontoc passed Resolution No. 192, Series 2023, extending the sincerest congratulations and commendation of the municipality to the Bontoc district sports and academic awardees who garnered medals and awards in the 2023 CARAA Meet and RAFT.
