BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) remains committed to enhancing healthcare and ensuring that the well-being of the younger generation is prioritized.
As part of its ongoing efforts, the Bontoc LGU distributed dental kits in Barangays Bayyo, Talubin, Caneo, and Tocucan on February 26, 2025. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to bring essential government services directly to the community.
During the event, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Diga Kay Gomez was represented by Municipal Nutrition Action Officer VenousFaith Cofulan, who handed over the dental kits to the Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and Child Development Workers. Joining the staff from the MHO was Municipal Administrator Eric Fulangen, Sr.
Cofulan emphasized the critical role of oral hygiene in a child’s overall health, stating that oral health is closely linked to general well-being.
“A healthy, confident smile starts with proper oral care, and children must learn good dental habits early on. We want to teach them the value of taking care of their oral health for a lifetime of healthy smiles,” she remarked.
In response, the Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and Child Development Workers committed to integrating tooth brushing into the daily routines of children. This initiative aims to instill the habit of brushing teeth after meals, recognized as one of the most effective and economical methods for maintaining dental health.
February is designated as National Dental Health Month, following Proclamation No. 559 issued in 2004, which aims to raise public awareness about the importance of good oral hygiene and health. By Alpine Killa-Malwagay & Ruth O. Suagen
