BONTOC, Mountain Province -Aimed to promote the love of reading, the Bontoc Municipal Library has brought its services to the communities going around the 16 barangays this month of November to deliver books to be used by the public free of charge.
According to Municipal Librarian Chamreine Casiwen, a total of 528 volumes of “Bontoc and Its Barangays” authored by Florence Chaokas and children’s books donated by Children International through the Maximo B. Dalog, Sr., Foundation were received by the respective Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs). Ching Kilakil from the Department of Education joined the activity and shared some books too.
Casiwen said that the books shall serve as additional reading materials for the Barangay Reading Centers. She added that the turnover of reading materials shall encourage the barangays without Reading Centers to set up their own and shall maintain a visitor’s/ borrower’s logbook for monitoring.
The activity is part of the annual observance of the Library and Information Services (LIS) Month every November under Proclamation No. 837, s.1991 in recognition of the need to focus public awareness on the invaluable service that libraries and information centers render.
The theme for this year’s observance is “Libraries Building ROADS: Readers. Opportunities. Advocacies. Development. Sustainability.”
Meanwhile, Casiwen expressed her gratitude to the Office of the Sangguniang Bayan, Office of the Municipal Mayor, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for manpower and transportation assistance. By Alpine L. Killa
