BONTOC, Mountain Province – Learners from the elementary and high schools, along with the organizations of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in this capital town showcased their talents and skills in painting in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities last December 8, 2023, at the Municipal Capitol.
The said activity was initiated by the municipal government through the Municipal Disability Affairs Office headed by Maria Codeo and the Sangguniang Bayan in partnership with the Bontoc Differently Abled Persons Organization.
Focusing on the theme “United in action to rescue and achieve the sustainable development goals, for, with and by persons with disabilities”, Codeo relayed that 25 young artists and art enthusiasts joined the painting contest.
She added that the activity aimed to inspire every contestant and other PWD audience that even with limitations, one can make the best out of her/his ability.
Ruth Basco from Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School clinched first place in the said painting contest garnering a cash prize of PhP7, 000. Her coach is Phoebe Samdao.
Adrian Balaniyan from Mountain Province SPED Center came in 2nd place and is expected to receive a cash prize of PhP5, 000. Balaniyan’s coach is Judith Tangilag.
Shialtiel Szept Peckley from Maligcong Elementary School landed in third place and is set to receive a PhP3,000 cash prize. The coach is Sig Farnican.
Those who did not make it to the Top 3 will receive a consolation prize of PhP1, 000 each.
