BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) through the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC) acknowledged the significant role of the barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) as mobilizers in the community.
With this, the Top 3 winners in the Search for the Most Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar were recognized during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony on June 16, 2025, at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol grounds.
Joan Hewan of Barangay Caneo who was adjudged as the champion with a score of 80% received a Certificate of Recognition and a cash prize of P4,500.
Garnering a score of 71%, Kimberly Langpawen of Barangay Guina-ang came in 2nd place and was handed over with a Certificate of Recognition and a cash prize of P3,500.
Divina Dangilan of Barangay Dalican landed in 3rd place and received a Certificate of Recognition and a cash prize of P2,000.
The awards were presented by Sangguniang Bayan members Jupiter Jule Kalangeg and Glenn Bacala, alongside Municipal Health Officer Dr. Diga Kay Gomez.
Nutrition Officer III Venous Faith Cofulan stated that the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol (MELLPI Pro) Tool was utilized to assess the implementation of the Nutrition Program by the Barangay Nutrition Councils and Barangay Nutrition Scholars.
The Municipal Nutrition Evaluation Team, which conducted the Search for the Most Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar, included representatives from various offices: the Municipal Health Office (MHO), the Municipal Planning and Development Office, the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist, Municipal Social Welfare and Development, and the Department of Health. The evaluation process involved field visits, document reviews, data analysis, technical assistance, and reporting of results to the members of the Barangay Nutrition Council (BNC). By Alpine L.
