BONTOC, Mountain Province – The winners of the 2025 Search for the Healthiest Barangay in the capital were announced during the regular Monday Flag Raising on June 16, 2025, at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol grounds.
The search, initiated by the Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) through the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC), aims to encourage health-conscious environment and promote healthy lifestyles in communities.
Barangay Samoki, headed by Punong Barangay Jerome Challoy, was adjudged as the champion with a score of 88% and was granted a cash prize of P4,500.
Tocucan, headed by Punong Barangay Mariano Wayyas, came in 2nd place after garnering 87.5%, thereby receiving a cash prize of P3,500.
Alab Oriente, headed by Punong Barangay Archibald Tabbang, landed in 3rd place with a score of 86% and received a cash prize of P2,000.
Nutrition Officer III Venous Faith Cofulan mentioned that the Search for the Healthiest Barangay is part of the lineup of activities of the Bontoc LGU through the MNC in celebration of Nutrition Month this year. Nutrition Month is celebrated every July per Presidential Decree 491.
Cofulan added that some of the other activities and programs conducted by the Bontoc LGU for the said celebration included the Search for Healthiest Mother and Baby, the Search for the Most Functional Barangay Nutrition Council, and the Search for the Most Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar.
