LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas and Regional Director Jovencio Ferrer, Jr. of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), together with Provincial Director Jimmicio Daoaten spoke today, August 17, to discuss programs, projects, and other future plans in the improvement and development of services on technical skills for Benguet constituents.
Among the matters discussed is the improvement of the Benguet Technical School (BTS) as possible site in the province for the establishment of TESDA’s Cordillera State Institute of Technical Education (CSITE).
House Bill 2141, “An Act Establishing the Cordillera State Institute of Technical Education” authored by Baguio Representative Mark Go, will help in “the creation of an institute that will integrate the region’s TESDA training centers and TESDA-supervised state-run technical vocational institutions (TVIs), collectively called TESDA Technological Institutions (TTIs),” according to a 2019 NEDA article.
The creation of CSITE is a strategic move that will improve the capacity of public technical institutions in the region to guarantee the delivery of high-quality, relevant, and advanced Technical Vocational Education and Training programs.
Meanwhile, Governor Diclas mentioned about considering a plan on energization of more remote communities and skills training program in Solar Installation.
Recently, several communities in the province have benefited from the Project SILAW (Solar Installation Among Locals to Advance their Welfare) spearheaded by TESDA-CAR and is chaired by Governor Diclas.
Director Ferrer thanked Governor Diclas for his continued support for TESDA.
In 2021, it can be recalled that Benguet received a national recognition from TESDA through the Kabalikat Awards. The Kabalikat Award is given to the most active and outstanding partners of TESDA who have assisted the agency in developing, enhancing, and implementing training programs that have resulted in better employability of Filipino skilled workers.
