BAGUIO CITY – Brigada Eskwela 2017 or the National Maintenance Week will start on May 15 to 20, 2017 nationwide. Its theme is “Isang DepEd, Isang Pamayanan, Isang Bayanihan para sa Handa at Ligtas na Paaralan.” Students, teachers, school personnel, volunteers, organizations, PTA officers and barangay officials are enjoined to participate, help, and support the nearest school where they reside or where their kids are enrolled for the school year 2017 – 2018.
The Baguio office of the Department of Education (DepEd) launched a project entitled Brigada Eskwela Best Implementing School both for the elementary and secondary level. Schools need to impress the judges for them to receive the award or incentive as the best Brigada Eskwela Implementor, 2017.
During Brigada Eskwela volunteers, parents and other stakeholders will be working on the structures of the school that needs to be repaired like destroyed chairs, tables, doors, blackboards and bulletin boards. Broken window panes will be replaced as well as broken water pipelines to conserve water.Walls, hallways, offices and ceilings will be repainted as well as exposed metal railings and windows. Repainting of signages along corridors to facilitate easy evacuation during earthquakes and fire emergencies; school surroundings and classrooms will, of course, be cleaned. These are some of the activities which will be visibly observed and done during the one-week Brigada Eskwela, 2017.
In order to do all this for a week, enough funds are needed to buy all the necessary materials to make the school a safe and conducive place for the students to learn. Donations from specific organizations and sponsors are accepted to augment the expenses incurred during the activities. Students, parents, and volunteers commit themselves to help in the activity voluntarily.
So let us all join hands to support the Brigada Eskwela activities ready for this coming June 5, 2017, the first day of school for the school year 2017–2018.
