LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Running enthusiasts from the valley will now have safer venues for their regular jogging activities after the Benguet State University (BSU) recently opened its campus roads for their daily routine activities.

BSU president Dr. Felipe S. Comila said that the campus roads will be open for joggers from 5 am to 7 am and 5 pm to 7 pm to allow running enthusiasts to be able to do their regular jogging to maintain their fitness amidst the serious negative impact of the prevailing community quarantine to the mobility of people.

However, He claimed that the jogging is the only allowed activity within the campus roads as part of the efforts of the university to sustain the strict implementation of the prescribed health and safety protocols.

Further, the BSU official reminded joggers to wear their face masks while doing their jogging in the campus roads to ensure the health and safety of their colleagues doing the same activity with them inside the compound of the university.

Comila added that the BSU athletic oval will also be opened t joggers next week to allow the concerned personnel to do the necessary activities that will ensure that the track oval will be safe for the joggers who will be using the same for their jogging activities.

Earlier, Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan paid a courtesy call to Dr. Comila in his office to discuss the gradual and safe opening of BSU’s campus roads and track oval for joggers and the strawberry farm for Baguio and Benguet residents as part of the efforts to revive the heavily impacted economy and the mobility of people.

Comila claimed that there is still a need for the concerned department in the university to study the proposal to open the strawberry farm to Baguio and Benguet residents to ensure that appropriate health and safety protocols whim be strictly observed by those visiting the place, thus, appropriate announcements will be made soonest to guide prospective visitors on what to expect when going to the area.

The strawberry farm is one of the major tourist attractions in the municipality because it is where the famous strawberries are grown by the hundreds of strawberry farmers involved in the lucrative trade.

The new BSU president appealed to joggers to abide by the prescribed health and safety protocols so that they will not be disturbed by health protocols offices in doing their regular activities because it is their obligation to ensure that they wear their face masks aside from adhering to the observance of physical distancing at all times.

He pointed out that BSU does not want that there will be untoward incidents that will transpire causing the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the municipality that is why joggers must cooperate with the prescribed health and safety protocols because he will not hesitate to close the campus for jogging once there will be cases that will be contact traced that will identify the university as the source of the transmission as what matters is still the health and safety of the people.
