BONTOC, Mountain Province – “Good better best. Do not make it rest until your good becomes your better; and better could be, your best,” said the host SUC President Dr. Rexton F. Chakas, leaving the challenge to each of the six SUCs who competed in the different contested events within the 2-day CARASUC Regional Socio-cultural Festival which was successfully ended with the awarding ceremonies last October 27, 2015 in MPSPC here.
Benguet State University (BSU) retained the overall crown by garnering a total 137 points followed by the host SUC, the Mt. Province State Polytechnic College with a total of 132 points, Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) earning 99 points, Apayao State College (ASC) – 80 points, Ifugao State University -72 points and the Kalinga-Apayao State University with a total earned score of 71 points.
For the dance competition: Indigenous dance, the champion was MPSPC followed by KASC, MPSPC and ASIST; Folk dance was dominated by ASC followed by MPSPC and BSU as second and third respectively; Hip-hop dance was ruled by BSU followed by MPSPC then IFSU; Contemporary dance was won by ASIST over MPSPC and ASC; the stage for the live band competition was owned by MPSPC followed by ASC and KASC; the vocal Solo competition was dominated by ASIST, followed by MPSPC, ASC and BSU respectively; instrumental solo went to BSU over ASIST, ASC and IFSU; chorale singing competition was ruled by BSU over KASC, MPSPC and ASC among other SUCs who didn’t have an entry; Pop solo was obtained by ASIST followed by IFSU and BSU; Vocal duet was a conquest by ASIST over BSU and KASC.
Other events such as the charcoal drawing was garnered by MPSPC over ASIST and IFSU; On-the-Spot painting was secured by BSU against ASIST in the second and BSU as third. MPSPC prevailed in the radio drama, following them were ASC and BSU while in the short and sweet plays, BSU proved their theatrical expertise positioning first followed by KASC and ASIST.
In the essay writing, BSU obtained the first followed by MPSPC and ASC while pagsulat ng sanaysay was collected by KASC over ASC and MPSPC.
Further, the extemporaneous speaking was dominated by IFSU followed by BSU and MPSPC and, dagliang talumpati, its counterpart in Filipino, was for KASC, the winner over IFSU and BSU. The story telling was snatched by IFSU from BSU and ASC, and; pagkukwento, the Filipino counterpart, was again for IFSU followed by BSU and MPSPC to land third this time.
For the quiz bowl, MPSPC intellectually got the first place followed by ASC and ASIST among others.
As a highlight of the activity, the Mr. and Ms. CARASUC 2015 was held in the night of 26th which was crowned to BSU’s male candidate as Mr. CARASUC 2015 his queen from MPSPC as Ms. CARASUC 2015. First runner ups were from ASC’s male candidate and IFSU’S female candidate followed by the Second runner up, ASIST male and female candidates.
Medals and certificates of recognition were awarded to the winners together with their coaches. Certificate of participation were given to all the non-winners. Moreover, the winners in the said regional event will be sent to Legazpi, Albay to represent the region for the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges National Socio-cultural meet come December.
Meanwhile, the President of the host school, Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) sought for consideration from the other participating SUCs since it was their first time to host such an event. However, Dr. Chakas expressed his willingness to host again such event in the future.
