TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Officials of Barangay Bulanao Centro, together with enforcers of the Tabuk City Police Station’s Traffic Management Unit (TMU) and Special Weapons and Tactics team, Public Order and Safety Office, and Land Transportation Office-Kalinga, recently conducted an inspection of public utility vehicles (PUVs).
The team caught many colorum tricycles, drivers without license, OR/CR (official receipt/certificate of registration), and tricycles without body numbers, May Bollecer, barangay administrator, announced in a Facebook post on February 11, 2022.
“Na-observe mi metlang nga dagiti kakadwa nga drivers ket agpasada da nga naka-tsinelas, short pants ken awan mask da nga supposedly bawal. Haan lang nga tricycle, ombak ti natiliw, nakatiliw kami pay ti maysa colorum nga taxi,” Bollecer wrote.
Bollecer said the operation is in response to a series of complaints against ‘colorum’ PUVs, noting that many reports pointed to colorum tricycles as prone to overcharging their passengers.
Bollecer related that barangay officials and the TMU had met with drivers November last year to remind the latter to comply with rules and regulations, reiterating the same on February 7, 2022.
“Ngem despite dagiti palagip ket talaga nga adda dagiti pumuspuslit nga agpasada (kaaduwan pay ket saan nga taga-Barangay Bulanao),” she stated.
Bollecer said Bulanao Centro is issuing a barangay sticker logo to identify tricycles that are fully compliant with documentary requirements, a measure which also serves to document tricycles in case of untoward incidents.
“According to Barangay chairman Cosme Gunnawa, maysa nga purpose ket tapnu agkaroon met ti proper recording ken registration idiay barangay tapnu nu ada dagiti instances kasla ti hit and run ket nabiit tayu maamuan nu ada amin body numbers dagiti agpaspasada,” she explained.
Bollecer said the inspection and apprehension of violators and colorum will continue to address problems in the public transportation of Bulanao Centro. By May Bollecer
