City officials urged the administration of the Civil Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to conduct regular consultative meetings in partnership with the Loakan Proper barangay council and the affected residents of the said barangay utilizing the Loakan airport runway as an access to their residences.
Under Resolution No. 623, series of 2022, local legislators considered the manifestations of the invited resource persons and affected stakeholders relative to the issues and concerns on the opening and closure of the Loakan airport during the scheduled incoming and outgoing flights of the Philippine Air Lines (PAL) servicing the Cebu-Baguio-Cebu route.
Last December 16, 2022, CAAP authorized the resumption of regular flights to and from the Loakan airport following the inaugural flight of the Cebu-Baguio-Cebu flight which will be done four times a week, particularly on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Subsequently, the members, elders and leaders of indigenous cultural communities and indigenous peoples in the city adopted a resolution asking the CAAP management for a dialogue and to immediately resolve the plight and issues of the affected communities before the normalization of the said flights to and from the Loakan airport.
According to the council, it is important for the CAAP and the affected residents of Loakan Proper barangay to have regular consultative meetings to pave the way for the adoption of ‘win-win’ solutions to the predicament of the people that are affected by the opening and closure of the runway, especially during the schedule of incoming and outgoing flights.
PAL PR No. 2230 will be leaving the Mactan Cebu international airport at around 8:50 am and will be arriving in the Loakan airport at around 10:50 am on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while PR No. 2231 will be leaving the Loakan airport at around 11:10 am and will be arriving in the Mactan Cebu international airport at around 1 pm.
