BAGUIO CITY – Drug personalities in Baguio City are increasing based on the monitoring of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
During the 2nd Quarter Meeting of the City Anti- Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) on June 4, 2025 at the Baguio City multipurpose hall, PDEA Baguio-Benguet Chief Edwin Changrapen reported there are 76 drug personalities being monitored in the second quarter of the year compared to the 57 listed individuals during the first quarter.
A total of 63 drug personalities were monitored during the first quarter where four were arrested, one ongoing outpatient rehabilitation and one ongoing in-patient rehabilitation leaving 57 drug personalities at large.
For the second quarter, a total of 86 drug personalities were monitored where nine were arrested by PDEA agents; and one ongoing in-patient rehabilitation for a total of 76 remaining drug personalities.
Four buy-bust operations from March to May led to the seize of 20,106.6438 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu; 1ML liquid shabu and 0.7837 grams of marijuana equivalent to more or less PhP136 million pesos.
Changrapen said shabu remains the drug of choice in Baguio being sold at PhP800 to PhP2000 per gram or PhP4000 to PhP10,000 per bulto. Meanwhile, marijuana is being sold at PhP27,000 to PhP30,000 a kilo.
On the part of the Baguio City Police Office, their anti-illegal drugs operation covering the months of April to June led to the arrest of 10 persons who use drugs (PWUDs) where eight were categorized as street value and two high value targets.
Confiscated illegal drugs were 97,3671 grams of shabu worth PhP662,096.28 and 1033.72 grams marijuana worth PhP124,046.4.
The need to operationalize a Balay Silangan that would cater for the rehabilitation of drug persons who use drugs (PWUDs) was discussed in length considering legislations, administrative procedures and financial requirements among others.
The meeting was presided over by Jobellee Siagan of the Cordillera Youth Leaders upon the orders of CADAC chairman mayor Benjamin B. Magalong in his advocacy to mainstream youth participation in governance. By JM Samidan
