LUNA, Apayao – For the first semester of 2024, the municipality of Calanasan logged a decrease in the total number of dengue cases documented from January 1 to August 3, 2024 as compared to the same period last year, according to PHO data, recording 25 cases, down by 4 from a total of 29 in the previous year.
As of August 03, 2024, the Provincial Health Office, along with the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (ESU), monitored the 14% difference in the recorded cases.
The Municipal Health Office (MHO) attributed the reduced number of dengue suspects to the implementation of certain interventions taken like vector surveillance and control.
Actions are taken to monitor clustering and report additional cases to the Municipal ESU. When areas have suspects of dengue infection, a clean-up and information drive are done, especially employing the 4S strategies – Search and Destroy, Secure Self-protection, Support Fogging and Spraying, and Seek Early Consultation.
The MHO, despite the reduction of cases, continues to urge the public to maintain a clean environment and eliminate any potential mosquito breeding grounds in their local areas in order to continue decreasing the incidence of dengue cases. By Ginalyn Gapusan
