BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) recognized the winners of the Search for the Most Functional Barangay Nutrition Council (BNC) through the MELLPI-Pro Tool Evaluation during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony on June 16, 2025, at the Bontoc Municipal Capitol grounds.
According to Nutrition Officer III Venous Faith Cofulan, the monitoring and Evaluation of the Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol is designed to monitor and evaluate the performance of local government units (LGUs) and Local Nutrition Focal Points (LNFPs) in promoting nutrition security vis-à-vis nutrition outcomes.
She explained that the MELLPI Pro Tool evaluates six dimensions to include Mission and Vision, Nutrition Policies, Governance, Local Nutrition Committee Management, Nutrition Services and Nutritional Status.
Thus, the awarding aimed to recognize the efforts of local communities in advancing nutrition and well-being.
Caneo BNC emerged as the champion with a score of 87.64%, earning them a Certificate of Recognition and a cash prize of P4,500.
Tocucan BNC came in second with a score of 85.77%, receiving a Certificate of Recognition and a P3,500 cash prize.
Dalican BNC secured the third spot with a rating of 83.78% garnering a Certificate of Recognition and P2,000 in cash.
Their awards were handed over by Sangguniang Bayan members Jupiter Jule Kalangeg and Glenn Bacala, along with Municipal Health Officer Dr. Diga Kay Gomez.
The Municipal Nutrition Evaluation Team for the Search for Most Functional Barangay Nutrition Council included representatives from MHO, the Municipal Planning and Development Office, the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist, Municipal Social Welfare and Development, and the Department of Health.
The search involved field visits, document review, data analysis, technical assistance and reporting of results to the members of the BNC. By Alpine L. Killa-Malwagay
