BAGUIO CITY – Local government units (LGUs) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) have given positive feedback from the implementation of the Department of Agriculture Cordillera’s (DA-CAR) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Information System (DRRMIS) or the dedicated digital platform tailored for local agricultural Offices in the Philippines.
DA DRRM Cordillera Focal person Crisante Rosario explained the implementation of digital platform starting this 2024 aims to digitize and centralize aspects of disaster preparedness planning and monitoring, fostering swift and effective response during emergencies.
“We have received good feedback from the municipal, city, and provincial agriculture extension workers in the region in the first year of the DRRMIS implementation this year. Through the DRRMIS, the LGUs were given the opportunity to make the necessary decisions and strategies in building resilience,” Rosario said.
The DRRMIS is a web-based, data-driven, and intuitive system that provides reliable information to improve disaster preparedness and response. It has been designed to serve as a central repository for all disaster risk reduction efforts in the country.
The system helps local government units better understand the risks and vulnerabilities of different types of calamities and how to mitigate them. It also makes it possible to obtain data-driven insights and solutions for improving their preparedness efforts.
“The speed of the data or reporting entered in this system is very important because it allows the LGUs to minimize errors particularly on the assessment of agricultural damages and valuation of production losses, after undergoing the process of evaluation,” the DRRMIS Focal person stated.
The use of the system provides an enhanced early warning system, improves risk assessment, determines resource allocation, seamless coordination, and improves public engagement.
“We appreciate the good feedback coming from our AEW’s tasked to manage our DRRMIS in the municipalities, cities, and provinces despite it is newly introduced to them and most specially that the system was only initiated this year, we are anticipating additional improvements of the system that will be more attuned to the needs of our region,” Rosario added.
The DRRMIS was also used as the basis for the crafting of rehabilitation and recovery programs and other government interventions like the distribution of the Presidential Assistance for Farmers, Fisherfolks, and Families affected by the recent El Nino phenomenon. By JTLlanes
