LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap welcomed the move of the provincial government to declare him as the province’s Adopted Son.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House committee on appropriations, said it is an honor for him to be declared as the province’s Adopted Son as he expressed his gratitude to the barangay, municipal and provincial officials for bestowing to him their trust and confidence to render them public service despite being a non-resident of Benguet.
“It is a great privilege and a nice gesture from the provincial board to bestow this honor on my birthday. Since my appointment as the legislative caretaker of Benguet, I always tried to exert my best efforts to serve the people, especially in this time of uncertainty and crisis. In my personal capacity, I vow to always help in whatever way I can and I will continue to do so until the very last minutes of my tenure as your caretaker,” Congressman Yap stressed.
Earlier, the Provincial Board passed Resolution No. 2020-499 that declared Congressman Yap as the Adopted Son of Benguet right on the lawmaker’s 41st birthday last May 11, 2020.
The lawmaker pointed out he is just not there to allow time to pass but he wants to leave a legacy that despite being a non-resident of Benguet, he proved to the people that he served with utmost dedication and passion to help the people of the province.
According to him, he is watching, listening, and having a feel of what the people of Benguet need so that he can assist them without waiting something in return.
He claimed that with or without recognitions and affirmations, his standing commitment and willingness to serve will never falter since it his inspiration to do so but not his sole motivation.
Yap underscored that in his own little way, he wants the people of Benguet to feel they are not alone in the fight against poverty and that he is with them to extend any assistance available within his means to help them win the life-long battle.
The provincial government and municipal governments will be holding future fitting ceremonies to formally adopt Congressman Yap as Benguet’s Adopted Son once the situation in the country will normalize in the coming months.
Last January 20, 2020, House Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano appointed Congressman Yap as the legislative caretaker of Benguet following the untimely demise of the late Rep. Nestor B. Fongwan, Sr. who succumbed to a lingering illness last December 18, 2019.
Subsequently, the provincial government accorded to the lawmaker a simple but meaningful welcome program at the Wangal Sports Complex last January 29, 2020 where provincial officials assured him he will be adopted as one of the sons of the province in a later date but the same was overtaken by events that have transpired over the past several months since the outbreak of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) 2019.
