BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently commended and congratulated Lioba Asia ‘L.A’ E. Piluden for receiving the first prize in the essay category of the 2024 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards (CPMA) for literature.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that Piluden’s remarkable achievement by receiving the first prize on what is considered as the country’s highest literary award brought honor and pride to the city.
The Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature is the longest running literacy award in the country. It was established in 1950 to inspire Filipino writers to improve their literary works.
Further, the award is usually referred to as the ‘Pulitzer Prize of the Philippines.’ It is the country’s highest literary honor in terms of prestige.
The literacy competition begun with a long-term vision straddling to complimentary tracks, to provide incentives for Filipino writers to craft the best literary pieces and to be a treasury to the country’s literacy gems.
Piluden, an instructor at the Department of Language, Literature and the Arts, College of Arts and Communication of the University of the Philippines Baguio, received the first prize in the essay category in the prestigious awards for her work ‘Ghost Hunting in Sagda.’
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to Piluden and the UP College Baguio administration for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
