BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently requested the City Building and Architecture Office (CBAO) to conduct a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the existing infrastructures in the city public market.
Under Resolution No. 658, series of 2024, local legislators stated that in order to enhance the infrastructure of the city public market that is aligned with the city’s vision for sustainable urban development and improved quality of life for residents and visitors, there is a need to conduct a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the existing infrastructures to identify key areas for improvement, including layout, facilities and enhancing the accessibility to improve access for persons with disabilities and ensure pedestrian flow.
Further, in the assessment and evaluation, the body claimed that it shall also incorporate sustainable practices by utilizing eco-friendly materials and technologies in renovations, promoting sustainability, and reducing environmental impact.
The council pointed that there is also a need to heighten the engagement of all stakeholders, market vendors, local businesses, and community members in the process to ensure that their needs and perspectives are considered.
During the Scout Officials For A Day (SOFAD) session held on October 21, 2024, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Ehrol Yhael D. Fernandez that sought to conduct a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the existing infrastructures in the city public market.
The council asserted that the city public market is supposed to serve as a vital hub for commerce, tourism, and local culture, promoting economic activities and community engagement.
However, it admitted that the market’s current infrastructure faces challenges such as overcrowding, inadequate facilities, and safety concerns, which hinders its full potential and accessibility.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the CBAO for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
