LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – All three Cordillera Career and Development College (CCDC) teams ranked in the top five of the 3rd Adivay Quiz Bee, held on Saturday, November 9, at the Gov. Ben Palispis Auditorium. The champion of the quiz bee was a team coming from CCDC.
The quiz bee consisted of questions delving into Benguet’s culture and history. Benguet State University (BSU), Cordillera Career and Development College (CCDC), and King’s College of the Philippines were the participating schools, each having three teams.
Benguet Provincial Librarian Leticia Bautista highlighted that the quiz bee is an effort to keep Benguet’s culture alive.
“Ang layunin ng tagisan ng talinong ito ay para mabigyang halaga ang ating naiibang kasaysayan, turismo, kultura, paniniwala, tradisyon, at sining, para ito ay mapahalagahan, linangin, at ipagpatuloy ng ating mga mag-aaral,” Bautista noted.
Bautista further encouraged the people to visit the Benguet Provincial Library to read books and give importance to what was written by their local writers on their province’s culture and history and further enrich their knowledge to keep the province’s identity alive.
Moreover, Provincial Governor Melchor Diclas, through Dr. Ryan Guinaran, stressed that the youth “stands at the forefront of a vibrant future.”
“Each question that you tackle today is more than a trivia, it’s a key to unlocking the treasures of our past and the compass guiding us to a brighter future,” Diclas through Guinaran emphasized.
CCDC Team 1, comprised of Roxanne Shyne Busilan, Joyce Madinno, and Norson Sarol, garnered 47 points, securing first place. They received a cash prize of PhP11,000 Philippine pesos and a plaque of recognition.
“We were able to explore other cultures, kasi sa amin we are from Kabayan, and iba din kasi Kankanaey, magkaiba yung cultures, and especially as the youth, may role din po kami to pass this knowledge that we have to other youth, especially it’s the celebration of Adivay,“ the winning team said.
The team’s coach, Cheryl Ablasi, expressed her appreciation towards their students’ efforts in their preparation.
“Bilib ako sa kanila kasi mahirap, kasi eksaktong eksakto na the last 2 weeks is exam namin so sabay talaga yun, kaya ang ginawa naming technique is, sabi ko tapusin muna nila yung exam saka ko binigay yung mga libro. Yung libro na naibigay sa bawat student, sina-summarize nila yun saka nila pinagpapasahan, kasi hindi nila talaga kaya na basahin lahat kasi lima ang binigay na references for this quiz,” Ablas explained.
Coming in second is the KCP Team 3, comprised of Jenifer Banilla, Jenny Claire Estrada, and Gherlyn Molina. They likewise received a cash prize worth PhP9,000 and a plaque of recognition.
CCDC Team 2 took third place, receiving PhP7,000 and a plaque of recognition. Meanwhile, BSU Team 1 placed fourth and CCDC Team 3 in fifth place, both receiving PhP5,000.
The rest of the participating teams also took home a consolation prize worth 3,500 PHP for each team.
