CONNER, Apayao – Conner Central National High School (CCNHS) celebrated Buwan ng Wika on August 30 by organizing a sing-and-dance competition dubbed as “Sayawit Kontra Bisyo” in partnership with the Provincial Department of Health Office and Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The activity, according to the two health offices, is important as it is one way to counter illegal drug use and vices among teenagers.
This creative and positive initiative of the Department of Health (DOH) was done to engage teenagers in culture and art, diverting their attention from unwanted activities.
Over 800 students joined the program and participated in different competitions such as the Sabayang Pagbigkas, Katutubong Sayaw, Solo, Talumpating Pasaulo, Folk Dance, Duet, Sulat-Bigkas ng Talumpati, Modern dance, Sulat-Tanghal ng Tula, Poetry, Vlogging, LikhAwit, Tagis-Talino (Quiz Bee), Pagsulat ng Sanaysay, and Poster/Slogan.
Dr. Yema Grace D. Papa of the PHO, Corazon Juan, and Julieth Delos Santos, together with the DOH personnel, Kenneth Agtarap-HEPO II, Jhaybone Bauag-HEPO-CDH, attended the said program to show their support in the integration of Sayawit program of the DOH.
Airesh Moira Tiwag Eming, 16 and Mizpha Talang Benhelna, 17, both students of CCNHS, said that celebrating Buwan ng Wika reminds them of the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of our nation.
Further, the two said that the program ‘Sayawit’ was a good platform to raise health awareness and at the same time for them to showcase their talents.
They also thanked the DOH and PHO for the successful implementation of Program ‘Sayawit’ at their school. By Ginalyn Gapusan
