TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In an emergency meeting held today, October 20, 2023, the Tabuk City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) chaired by Acting Mayor Dick Bal-o recommended the declaration of Tabuk City in State of Calamity due to African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak, affecting at least 13 barangays in the city as confirmed by laboratory tests.
Tabuk City Veterinarian Dr. Carmen Wanas said that to provide the needed logistics for the conduct of depopulation and biosecurity measures in the affected areas, the council will be needing at least 30 million, which is proposed to be sourced out from the DRRM Quick Response Fund.
As recalled, Dr. Wanas reported during the emergency meeting on October 16, 2023 that from the 722 recorded population of pigs in the city, 266 died due to ASF while 46 are monitored to be sick with ASF.
With the alarming outbreak in the city, the council in a draft resolution states that there is a necessity “to employ drastic disease control and biosecurity measures for the prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, rehabilitation and recovery” thus, the need to declare a state of calamity.
Through a resolution, said recommendation will be transmitted to the Sangguniang Panlungsod for their action. By GBG
