TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Following the continuous rain this week induced by Typhoon “Carina,” the public is warned to avoid any fishing activities in the Chico river and advised to heed advisories from local officials.
Raul Albert, Assistant Department Head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said the public should prioritize their safety and ensure they are not affected during disasters.
In light of the drowning tragedy that occurred in Barangay Suyang on Wednesday, Albert stated that the reminder has to serve as a warning.
Additionally, he said that although the Chico River’s water level was still normal, the public is advised to avoid any sort of fishing activities as the water has risen from its previous level. Barangays are encouraged to notify the CDRRMO of their situation during disasters so that the latter can take the appropriate action.
It is recommended that the public stay informed about any announcements through the city’s social media page and radio announcements.
Albert also warned the public that low pressure might develop into a typhoon and make landfall this weekend based on PAG-ASA forecasts.
For any inquiries or emergencies the public is advised to call the CDRRMO Hotline no. 0917-164-3658. By Ian Addatu
