TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) named the winners for the search for the cleanest and greenest barangays and best performing schools during the culminating program of the 2024 Environment Month celebration held today at the People’s Gymnasium.
This initiative themed “Our environment, our future” encourages barangays and schools to adopt and implement sustainable environmental practices, and promote awareness about the importance of environmental observation, says CENR Officer Salud Lammawin.
Under the urban barangay category, Ipil was named the over-all winner with a P50,000.00 incentive. Dagupan Weste placed second with P40,000.00 incentive, and Bulanao and Dilag on third place with P30,000.00 incentive each. Agbannawag and Casigayan were both given P10,000.00 as consolation prizes.
Under the rural barangay category, Malalao was declared the first placer with P50,000.00 cash reward, Masabalang, as the second placer brought home P40,000.00 and Tuga and Lucog being third placers got P30,000.00 each. Lanna and Laya West were given consolation prizes amounting to P10,000.00.
For the best performing school in environmental management, under the big secondary school category, the best performing school is Kalinga National High School while the environmental awardee is Agbannawag National High School.
For the small secondary school category, the best performing school is Nambaran Agro Industrial National High School while the environmental awardees are Calaccad National High School and Naneng National High School.
For the big elementary school category, the best performing school is Cudal Central School while the environmental awardees are Balong Central School and Bulo East Central School.
For the small elementary school category, the best performing school is Laya West Elementary School, while the environmental awardees are Malalao Elementary School and Pinagan Elementary School.
The four best performing schools received P30,000.00 each while the seven environmental awardees took home P15,000.00 incentive.
During the ceremony, the CENRO has also recognized Dagupan Weste as the winner for the Best Materials Recovery Facility operations with P15,000.00 cash reward, and a plaque of recognition for Bulanao as best exemplary documentary presentation in environmental management.
The CENRO has given all the winners and awardees plaque and certificates of recognition.
The two awards (cleanest and greenest barangays and best performing schools in environmental management) were given for the continued support and exemplary contribution of the barangays and schools to the Integrated Waste Management Solution in accordance with RA 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2002).
