BAGUIO CITY – The City Engineering Office (CEO) interposed no objection to the commencement of proposed road works by the Department of Public works and Highways – Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWH-BCDEO) along various national roads in the city, especially along Abanao road.
However, the CEO stated that in the case of the road works along Abanao road, the proposed traffic management plan should be implemented on site with strict adherence to some necessary interventions.
Among the proposed interventions are the contractor shall provide sufficient number of flagmen on site to aid in traffic flow management and control; delivery of materials such as aggregates, forms, pre-mixed concrete and others on site should be done during non-peak hours of vehicular traffic along the area from 6 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 7 pm during typical school and working days so as not to aggravate the traffic congestion in the area; the concrete curing period for the pavement should be three days to allow faster completion of the project for the convenience of the public; the contractor shall not completely close the whole stretch of the road during the commencement of the project and the contractor shall ensure that the two lanes of the portion of Abanao road to be rehabilitated should still be passable for motorists during the duration of the project while they are reblocking one lane of the said road.
The CEO reserves the right to require the DPWH-BCDEO and its contractors to comply with additional or amendatory traffic interventions if some of the recommendations are no longer workable.
Earlier, the DPWH-BCDEO informed the local government of the ongoing projects, particularly the rehabilitation, construction and upgrading of damaged paved roads along primary roads such as Abanao road, Gov. Pack road and Quirino highway or the Baguio-Bauang road.
Based on an advisory, a portion of Abanao road will be temporarily close until July 31, 2025 due to the rehabilitation of the said road by the DPWH-BCDEO but the said road will still have two lanes passable.
The CEO warned the public to expect heavy traffic along the said road during the duration of the project, thus, motorists have been advised to take alternate routes if possible to avoid delays in their travel. By Dexter A. See
