BAGUIO CITY – The City Council approved a resolution requesting the City Environment and Parks Management office (CEPMO) to maintain or replace the reported dilapidated guard rails installed inside the different parks and various areas along major roads around the city to ensure that they serve their prescribed purpose.
The resolution authored by Councilor Leandro B. Yangot, Jr. underscored that the safety of the public is of primary importance such that the immediate repair of all the guard rails installed by the local government in some parks and areas along major roads in the city must be undertaken by the concerned office.
The resolution stated that the existence of dilapidated guard rails in some parks and in various areas along major roads in the city may cause further injury to the public as a result of accidents in the future if the same will be left unattended by the concerned office of the local government.
Yangot pointed out guard rails properly painted not only captivates the eyes of park goers but also makes them noticeable to the riding public, especially when properly installed along areas in various road sections in the city.
According to him, it has been observed that installed guard rails in parks and some areas along major roads around the city are wanting, dilapidated or rusty that serves as an eye sore to the public, especially those who frequent the parks and pass through the various road sections in the city.
Further, the resolution stated that the guard rails installed around the city are either improperly maintained and painted or lost to scrap metals dealers which pose a serious threat to the plants and flowers that they rails are supposed to protect.
The alderman claimed Baguio City has been tagged as the country’s undisputed Summer Capital for decades now and is having much of an online presence nowadays aside from it being hailed as one of the top ten safest cities in Southeast Asia, thus, in its effort to sustain more of its vitality, the local government is consistently improving from its infrastructure to beautification projects among others.
In case the dilapidated guard rails are situated along national roads, Yangot said the CEPMO must closely coordinate with the personnel of the Department of Public works and Highways (DPWH) Baguio City District Engineering office to work out the replacement of the said rails so that there will be uniformity in the efforts of the concerned government agencies and the city to improve the state of its parks and major road systems.
Under the present set up in the local government, the CEPMO is in charge of the beautification of all the different parks located within the areas of jurisdiction with its activities ranging from the beautification, maintenance of all the different facilities that are installed in the public places that are frequented by the increasing number of visitors flocking to the city every weekend and holidays.
Among the parks being supervised by the CEPMO include Burnham Park, Botanical Garden, Wright Park, Mines View Park, Bayan Park, Dominican heritage area and the city hall park up to the Rizal Park site.
