Cervical Cancer is one of the leading health threats to women, today but it is also preventable when treated. Mr. Rock B. Tubaña from the Public Health Management Cluster Unit for the Cancer Prevention Program, shared that since 2022, according to the World Health Organization, the Philippines recorded over 8,500 cases of cervical Cancer, making it the third most common Cancer among Filipino women.
He encouraged women to watch out for symptoms. He shared the early signs that can easily be missed such as Bleeding between periods or after intercourse, Unusual vaginal discharge with odor or color, and Pain in the lower abdomen or during intercourse.
Regular screening to detect Cervical Cancer. There are three main ways: Pap smear, Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA), or HPV DNA Testing. Health experts recommend that women aged 30 to 56 should have screening every 3 to 5 years.
