TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Child development workers here participated in an orientation on Gender and Development (GAD) spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (GAD) on July 25.
The main objective of this activity is to help the participants fully understand the concept of GAD as one way of promoting empowerment and equality among men and women.
Kate Saliw-an, Social Welfare Officer in charge of the topic, explained that GAD focuses on gender mainstreaming, which is a strategy for incorporating women’s and men’s concerns and experiences into the implementation of policies, programs, and projects in all social, political, civil, and economic spheres so that women and men benefit equally.
She added that GAD assesses the implications for women and men of any planned action, including legislation, policies or programs in all areas and at all levels.
GAD advocates for equal rights, opportunity, and treatment for all individuals, regardless of gender identification, according to the speaker.
Saliw-an stressed during her lecture that societies must understand the benefits of gender equality in order to achieve complete social, economic, and political advancement.
During the orientation, Marinel Dorgay, another Social Welfare Officer, discussed the key components of RA 9262 (Anti Violence Against Women and Children).
She emphasized the categories of violence identified by the law, as well as the responsibilities of child development specialists in safeguarding their students from these forms of abuse.
