BAGUIO CITY- Activities for the month-long “Christmas in Baguio” geared towards “the renewing of spirit of sharing, unity, love and peace” kick off Dec. 1 with the executive committee at helm. Private sectors however are equal partners in the celebration.
Congressman Nicasio Aliping, Jr. is honorary chairman while Mayor Mauricio Domogan is Chairperson.
Vice Mayor Edison Bilog is co-chair as Council committee chair on tourism, parks and special events Elmer Datuin, and City Administrator Carlos Canilao are action officers.
Members of the committee are the city accountant, city budget officer, city environment and parks management officer, city building officer, city engineer and city treasurer.
Assigned staff from the City tourism, mayor’s office, administrator’s, council committee on tourism are members of the secretariat.
The executive committee oversees the proper implementation of activities; prepares the proper policies, guidelines, measures and program of activities; include other members in the committees and with other activities in the celebration; and see ways and means for the event to be appropriately supported.
Organizers of events are not allowed to solicit funds from private entities unless authorized in writing by the mayor; and that a full accounting of the generated resources must be given for transparency purposes.
“Christmas in Baguio” is a crowd-drawing event during the yuletide season, and has been going on for years now. The final list of activities is underway.
