TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The city government, through the City Special Concerns and Coordinating Office (CSCCO), celebrated the International Day for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) on December 13, at the Tabuk People’s Gym.
CSCCO Head Glen Wansi and Marydhel Lattot, along with other staff, led the event with this year’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” emphasizing the importance of empowering PWDs to contribute to an inclusive society.
In a message delivered by City Information Officer Aurora Amilig, Mayor Darwin Estrañero highlighted the significant roles of PWDs in society, stressing that they have the potential to excel in their own fields.
She also assured that the city government is committed to providing the necessary services and programs for PWDs.
The event featured three main activities: lantern-making, group singing, caroling, and a dance contest.
The activities aimed to showcase the talents and creativity of PWDs while promoting inclusion and solidarity. Participants were also given Christmas gifts from the City Government.
Francisco Gamatero, representing Vice Mayor Dick Bal-o, was also present at the event.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), persons with disabilities make up 16% of the global population, yet they often face significant barriers to leadership roles in sectors like health.
WHO recognizes that amplifying the leadership of PWDs is crucial for advancing global health goals, promoting health equity, and creating a more inclusive and sustainable future. By Ian Jefrey Addatu
