BAGUIO CITY – The 23rd National Children’s Month is currently being celebrated by the city government here with this year’s theme “Komunidad at Pamahalaan Magkaisa, Pang-aabuso sa Bata, Wakasan Na!”.
The celebration was launched last Monday during the regular flag raising ceremony at the city hall grounds.
The Day Care Children Talent contest, unit level, started last Nov. 3 until Nov. 10 in the different day care centers for three to four years old day care children. While, the city level Day Care Children Talent contest will be held on Nov. 14 at the Baguio City multi-purpose hall.
Children with ages eight to 14 started participating in the Children’s Got Talent competition district level in the different barangays and districts and on Nov. 21 will be the Children’s Got Talent competition city level at the Baguio City multi-purpose hall.
On the other hand, the deadline of submission of entries for the Search for Child Friendly Barangay is on Nov. 6. Afterwhich, the search for child friendly committee will conduct a table assessment on Nov. 9-10.
Said committee will do the visitation and validation to the participating barangays on Nov. 12-13, 18-20.
There will also be information dissemination through lectures/orientation/seminars on laws concerning children such as rights and responsibilities of a child, anti bullying and others in the different elementary and secondary schools to be participated by elementary and secondary pupils in whole month of November.
An Interfacing of Federation of Barangay Council for the Protection of Children members will be held on Nov. 25-27 at the Mandaluyong City.
There will also be Children’s Congress in the different barangays for the whole month. A simple culminating program will be done at the Baguio City multi-purpose hall on Dec. 4.
In the previous years, National Children’s Month is being celebrated in the month of October, however, president Benigno Aquino has signed Republic Act 10661 declaring the month of November as the national children’s month.
Accordingly, the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) said the law mainly changed the month of the celebration from October to November to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the United Nations General Assembly on Nov. 20, 1989 and the Philippines’ signing of the CRC.
