On April 13, 2023, the AAP, the national sporting authority of the Federation Internationale de Automobile (FIA) and organizer of the 27th AAP Annual Motorsport Awards, honored the best of the best in Philippine motorsports for 2022.
The AAP conferred the prestigious 2022 Driver of the year Award in circuit racing to Baguio boy Inigo Navarette-Anton during the said annual awards held at the World Trade Center.
The 18-year old Anton was awarded the most awards for having won overall championships in the top classes of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup, the Philippine Grand Touring Car, and the coveted Radical Challenge–Philippines, the fastest car race series in the country.
According to his proud father, Carlos Anton, also a multi-awarded racing champion, “Have been attending the AAP awards for 27 years now and to witness my son go up on stage for winning in different race championships in one year is quite exceptional. It is something I think has never occurred in the past.”
Inigo’s mother, Karen Navarette-Anton, also an international racing champion who made history for being the first-ever Filipino to win the overall championship trophy in the 2007 Marlboro Red Racing Competition in Italy, mentioned in her post that ‘It has always been a dream of our dear Inigo to receive this award but he didn’t expect to get it.’
