BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently concurred with the proposed active transport projects of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in the city.
Under Resolution No. 372, series of 2024, local legislators stated that the passage of the said resolution will signify the continuance of the planning and design, architectural plans, concurrence, project proponent, communications, preparation, and subsequent project execution.
Earlier, the DOTr implemented its active transport program funded through the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) 11975 or the General Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2024.
Through the Active Transport Office, the agency plans to improve the active transport infrastructure in the city to fulfill its mandate through the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.
The DOTr identified and presented together with the concerned government offices a proposed public transport stops in the city with its civil works planned to start by Juny 2024 and end by November 2024.
The council claimed that the city government aims to promote a more sustainable and inclusive transport system that encourages active transport, and provides safe and direct access to priority services with the participation of different stakeholders.
Further, the city government and the DOTr have initially discussed the proposed public transport stops in the city which the former expressed concurrence to the proposal in a recent meeting held last May 22, 2024 through zoom video conferencing.
The body pointed out that this initiative is aligned with the broader goals of enhancing transportation infrastructure, promoting sustainable mobility and addressing the evolving needs of the community, especially easing the traffic problems in the city.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the DOTr for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
