TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The City Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Office (CCEDO) formally commenced today the Global Money Week campaign in schools, with Agbannawag National High School being the first.
Global Money Week is an annual awareness-raising program that promotes financial literacy and responsible behavior among young people.
City Cooperatives Officer Catherine Uera, in her message, stated that this is the fourth year that the city government has joined in the celebration with the theme ”Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow” to emphasize the importance of responsible financial management, financial education, cyber security and entrepreneurship.
The CCEDO, in collaboration with the Tabuk Multipurpose Cooperative (MPC), Treasure Link Cooperative, and Legacy Savers Cooperative of Tam-an BMPC, held a financial literacy orientation with a brief introduction to their LabCoop programs for grade 7 students.
This financial literacy orientation is scheduled for March 19 at Balong National High School, followed by Laya Integrated School, Dilag Integrated School, and St. Toni’s College Inc. on March 20 and 21, respectively.
According to Cooperative Development Specialist Anna Liza Malapit, the secondary student orientation will teach the young generation the value of saving money for the future and how to overcome financial issues through strategic savings and investment projects.
To highlight the importance of saving money, the students were encouraged to begin saving and use it the same to join laboratory cooperatives. By Darwin S. Serion
