BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently authorized the local chief executive representing the city government to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) Baguio City chapter represented by its president, Engr. Charles Bryan C. Carame, for collaboration in enhancing disaster preparedness, response and recovery efforts through the sharing of expertise, resources and knowledge in the city.
Under Resolution No. 722, series of 2024, the Committee on Laws, Human Rights and Justice, in its 2nd indorsement dated November 26, 2024, recommended approval of the earlier request for authority to enter into a MOA with the PICE Baguio City chapter for the collaboration to improve disaster preparedness, infrastructure resilience and community safety in the Cordillera, particularly in the city.
Earlier, the council considered a letter dated November 7, 2024 of the local chief executive requesting authority to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the PICE Baguio City chapter represented by its president for collaboration in enhancing disaster preparedness, response and recovery efforts through the sharing of expertise, resources and knowledge in the city.
On May 27, 2010, Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010 was enacted to enhance the country’s disaster risk reduction and management system.
Further, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is mandated to prepare for, respond to, and mitigate the impacts of disasters in the city.
On the other hand, the PICE Baguio City chapter is dedicated to advancing the field of civil engineering and supporting community initiatives related to safety and disaster resilience.
The body stipulated that the signed MOA shall be submitted to the council for confirmation in the future. By Dexter A. See
