TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The city government, through the City Population Development Office (CPDO), conducted “Orientation on Family Planning Usapan Serye” on August 22, 2024, at the City Multi-purpose Hall.
CPDO Head Jonalyn Kiser explained that the purpose of the orientation is to equip more barangay population coordinators and volunteers for their functions in their respective communities.
She said that volunteers have a big role in their barangays with respect to the implementation of the government’s responsible parenthood and reproductive health programs.
City Mayor Darwin Estrañero’s representative, Napoleon Ayang-ang, emphasized to the participants their roles in encouraging community members to have responsible families that can help in nation-building
He also encouraged them to inform their constituents of the government’s programs on best practices concerning responsible family planning that are worth sharing.
On the other hand, Alpha June Gabel from the CPDO discussed some of the salient features of Republic Act No. 10354, or the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Law of 2012.
She also reminded the attendees of the services the government could offer its citizens, like family planning advice and guidance on raising responsible children with the help of relevant organizations.
In addition, Debbie Jane Dawayan from the CPDO narrated the concept and the process by which community members can avail themselves of the services of the government with respect to the use of family planning methods.
She also stressed that the coordinators must explain the importance of providing services on family planning methods to families and prospective clients.
As for the population coordinators’ assistance with family welfare, Vilma Palma of the City Social Welfare and Development Office clarified that they can also support the barangay VAWC desk officers in the event that victims of abuse or violence come forward to report to them.
In order to protect the victims from the offenders, Palma continued, the coordinators may also take the required actions, such as reporting to the appropriate authorities the victims that the barangays are unable to care for. By Ian Addatu
