City officials recently honored Soledad Coloma as the newest centenarian of the city.
Under Resolution No. 504, series of 2022, local legislators stated that Coloma is now a grandmother of 15 and a great grandmother of 10 children from whom she receives a lot of love and care.
Coloma, second among a brood of 6 children, was born on September 22, 1922 in Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur who reached a milestone in her life by reaching 100 years old.
She was married to his townmate Esteban Jabanillo Coloma in Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur on September 16, 1943 and they were blessed with 11 children.
She lived in Acupan, Itogon, Benguet where Esteban was then employed by the Benguet Mining Corporation, where Soledad also did her part to raise their 10 children by selling fish at the bunkhouses in the mine site.
The Coloma family then moved to their abode at Purok 6, Bakakeng Norte, Baguio city where they decided to permanently live.
Of the 9 surviving children, 6 are professionals in their own respective fields.
As a parent, Soledad is reportedly mindful of her health so that she will be able to take care of her children and grandchildren.
The council noted that her secrets to a longer life include eating healthy foods, diligently taking her vitamins, drinking lots of water daily, and obediently following the advises for health and longevity.
Soledad also keeps herself busy by doing small things needed for the upkeep of the family abode. She also regularly drinks wine but she does not encourage nor advises her children and grandchildren to do so.
The council added that the new centenarian be awarded the privileges pursuant to Ordinance No. 45, series of 2013 as amended by Ordinance No. 53, series of 2016 and further amended by Ordinance No. 84, series of 2018 as amended by Ordinance No. 10, series of 2022.
Another centenarian honored
City officials honored Concepcion Baucan Aquino as a centenarian of the city.
Under Resolution No. 481, series of 2022, Concepcion Baucan Aquino turned 100 on July 25, 2022 having a total of 30 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is described by others as a woman with a humble and gentle spirit and an appreciate demeanor.
Conception is also described as being easy to get along with, someone who is a good listener and a friend. Her longevity is from healthy living and proper family caregiving.
Her family claimed that her Godly lifestyle is her happiness even as a centenarian.
She was born on July 25, 1922 in Itogon, Benguet but lived in Baguio city.
She was married to Leon Aquino of Besao, Mountain Province on September 7, 1940 in Baguio City and the couple was blessed with 9 children who were all raised and trained as accomplished individuals in their respective chosen fields of service to other people.
Republic Act (RA) 10868 otherwise known as the Centenarian Act of 2016 honors and grants additional benefits and privileges to Filipino centenarians.
The implementing rules and regulations of the said law mandated that aside from the benefits and privileges given by the national government, local government units shall also grant awards and incentives to Filipino centenarians who are residents in their respective jurisdictions.
