TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In order to create a database of all people with disabilities and to determine their needs for future interventions, the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO), which is a division of the City Special Concerns and Coordinating Office (CSCCO), is currently conducting home visits.
This program keeps track of the total number of PWDs in each barangay and identifies those who, as a marginalized group, are not yet registered and hence cannot use the services offered by the government.
Along with correcting the information from their prior registration, this action determines what more the PWDs require based on the assessments and interviews conducted.
Home visits, according to Social Welfare Officer IV Marydhel Lattot, guarantee that they can make use of additional advantages and assistive technology that the local government provides. It will also give them the assurance that they are still part of the community and are not left behind.
Based on records of the PDAO, close to 2,000 PWDs have been registered and issued PWD identification cards. The home visits attempt to address those who are still unregistered. By Darwin S. Serion
