TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is seeking to promote a positive parenting culture through the conduct of the Parent Effectiveness Service (PES) program.
The main goal of the PES is to improve parents’ knowledge and skills in various aspects of positive parenting by providing valuable insights and practical advice on various aspects like early childhood development, behavior management, health care, and understanding the rights and responsibilities of parents and children, according to CSWD Officer Eusebia Edduba.
Edduba said positive parenting is a parenting approach that prioritizes growth and learning through responsive and intentional care, as well as clear, consistent rules and expectations communicated openly with children. It is a method of helping children understand why some behaviors are acceptable and others are not.
During the PES session conducted today in Brgy. Bantay, Lorraine Salibad, a registered psychologist spoke on the topic knowing myself, to promote the participants’ self-awareness; while Shanelle Paot, Social Welfare Officer III took over the discussion on challenges of parenting, and Beverly Grail Alvester for the role of parents in child development, educating parents about responsible parenting and equipping them with essential parenting skills, making informed decisions about effective child-rearing practices.
The PES session also gave the participants the opportunity to listen to Melody Dulawen, Social Welfare Officer IV who was instrumental in discussing laws focusing on safeguarding the rights of children, and protecting them from any form of abuse, exploitation, or neglect.
Other speakers included planning officer Vincent Galura on the topic building children’s positive behavior; and nurse Ivorglen Caimo on health and nutrition.
The CSWDO will provide every barangay with a session of PES to attain the objective of the program, ensuring that children are raised in a harmonious environment for their growth and development. By Darwin S. Serion
