BAGUIO CITY – The local government decided to stop accepting intentions from volunteer groups to help in maintaining law and order in the city during the Holy Weekend Summer Vacation in Baguio activities as part of having a lean and mean work force for such celebration.
The agreement was reached by members of the Summer Vacation in Baguio committee after the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) limited to only five areas of responsibility the places where the volunteers will be deployed. During the Holy Week break.
Initially, the city will be having more or less 500 volunteers from some seven volunteer groups that earlier signified their intention to help the local government in maintaining law and order during the Holy Week break where there will be an expected influx of visitors wanting to spend their well-deserved break in the country’s undisputed Summer Capital.
The local government started adopting a policy to reduce the number of volunteer groups who want to help in maintaining law and order during the Holy Week to ensure a lean and mean work force so that the needs of the public will be effectively and efficiently acted upon.
Among the assigned duties of the members of volunteer groups are tourist assistance, traffic management, emergency response, information dissemination and motorist assistance.
The local government observed that in the past conduct of the Summer Vacation and other activities during the year, there are many volunteer groups that offer their help but the huge number of members tend to cause some problems on the part of the city and concerned offices such as the BCPO and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
The city is appealing to the volunteer groups who will not be accommodated to render volunteer work to understand the decision of the local government to limit their participation for purposes of orderliness and the adherence to the lean and mean work force. By Dexter A. See
