TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In celebration of the Rabies Awareness Month this year, the City Veterinary Services Office (CVSO) announced their succeeding activities as follows: March 17 & 24: free castration at Slaughterhouse Compound; mass anti rabies vaccination in barangays Dagupan Centro, Dagupan West, Magsaysay and Casigayan and other barangays will be scheduled from March to November this year.
In addition, they will offer free vitamins and conduct free deworming to cats and dogs.
The scheduled activities will include orientation of barangay representatives regarding dog impounding, lecture on the Anti Rabies Act including biosecurity, and updates on African Swine Fever (AFS).
Last year, the CVSO recorded one case of rabies in the city which originated from Region 2 and for this year, they hope to achieve zero rabies cases.
In partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Department of Interior Local Government, local government units and the private sector, the office aims to strengthen the prevention campaign to avoid unnecessary deaths due to rabies. The campaign focuses on responsible pet ownership and vaccine availability at established animal bite treatment centers.
Apart from promoting rabies awareness, the CVSO is also closely monitoring possible cases of AFS, anthrax, blackleg, and bird flu in the city with the help of established task forces.
The Rabies Awareness Month will culminate on March 22 with a program at M Hotel. By Ian Jefrey Addatu
