TUBAO, La Union – A 48-year old cockpit bet collector or ‘kasador’ was arrested by combined police operatives and intelligence agents based on a warrant of arrest issued by a Baguio-based court for charges of alleged estafa at Poblacion, here, recently.
Police authorities described the arrested individual as 48 years old, male, a cockpit bet collector or ‘kasador’ of the Tubao Sports Complex and a resident of Lloren, Tubao, La Union.
He was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Debbie Dulay del Val of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Branch 1 in Baguio City for alleged estafa with a recommended bail of P48,000 for his temporary liberty.
However, the suspect was able to post bail at the court based in nearby Agoo, La Union that paved the way for his temporary liberty.
Earlier, the Baguio City Prosecutor’s Office found probable cause for the filing of a case of estafa against the arrested individual.
Records show that from April 2023 up to December 2024, including the periods prior thereafter, in Baguio City, the accused, with alleged unfaithfulness and grave abuse of confidence, and with intent to defraud, did then and there willfully, unlawfully and feloniously swindled the private complainant more or less P1.4 million.
The accused, after having received from and/or for the complainant, the aforesaid amount in different dates in trust and/or for purposes of administration, which amounts are supposed to be utilized as ‘investment,’ additional investment, funds to look, select and buy fighting cocks as one half share of the complainant in the income of a derby event among others but the said suspect, after having received such monies, with in faithfulness and abuse of confidence and far from complying with aforesaid undertakings, misapplied, misappropriated and converted the said amounts to his personal use, benefit and purposes, and despite several demands to comply with his obligations and return or deliver said amounts, he failed to utilize the same for the said purposes.
