The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) assured that there will be no more nuisance candidates running for various elective posts in future elections, including the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on October 30, 2023.
Chairman George Erwin Garcia underscored that the poll body does not want the presence of nuisance candidates in the list of aspirants for various elective positions because it will just confuse the voters on whom to vote that might lead to the wrong individual being elected to different sensitive positions in the government.
He disclosed that he made the commitment not to allow nuisance candidates to be included in the final list of official candidates that will be posted in the various precincts and polling places nationwide so that the voters can elect the right leaders who will run the government.
The poll official denounced the dirty tactics being employed by some aspirants for the different elected positions in fielding nuisance candidates for them to discredit their rivals just to ensure their victory during the scheduled elections.
Garcia said that even in the upcoming barangay and SK elections this October, there will be no more nuisance candidates included in the final list of candidates from where the voters will elected their leaders so that those who deserve to be voted upon by the electorate will be the ones who will be put in place in public office.
According to him, nuisance candidates have no place in the conduct of the elections and election officers must be proactive in making sure that only the candidates who deserve to be elected by the people will be the ones included in the final list of voters to be posted in the different polling centers around the country.
Garcia expressed hope that with the delisting of the nuisance candidates from the final list of candidates for various elective positions during the conduct of elections, those responsible for such dirty political tactics will not repeat their questionable actions in future elections whether or not barangay and SK, mid-term or synchronized national and local elections.
He called on politicians who want to discredit the results of future elections by fielding nuisance candidates not to attempt to repeat their strategies in the upcoming elections.
He explained that the upcoming October barangay and SK elections will serve as their rallying point in getting rid of nuisance candidates because of the numerous aspirants for the various elective posts in the barangay level.
He also assured that the poll body is ready for the upcoming barangay and SK elections even if their hands are loaded with the decisions that will be rendered in disqualifying nuisance candidates from being included in the final list of aspirants for the different elective posts in the barangay.
