BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Provincial Election Office in this province reported a 74.80 percent voter turnout during the October 30, 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Provincial Election Supervisor lawyer Ricardo Lampac said that the province as a total of 117,235 total number of registered voters where 61,762 are males and 55,473 are females
He disclosed that during the conduct of the barangay and SK elections, 87,690 voters actually casted their votes for their chosen candidates in the province’s 144 barangays with some 399 clustered precincts.
Of those who actually casted their votes, 46,136 are males and 41554 are females as per the data that was officially released by the poll body.
Lampac pointed out that the big number of voter turnout in the province was the eagerness of the voters to actively participate in the conduct of the barangay elections after several postponements aside from the fact that there were also numerous individuals who also filed their certificates of candidacy for the various elected positions in the barangay level.
On the other hand, Lampac claimed that there was also a 71.40 voter turnout of the SK during the said elections.
Based on the available data from the poll body, SK voters aged 18 to 30 years old totaled 37,735 while those aged 15 to 17 years old were only 4,476.
According to him, there were some 42,211 registered SK voters in the province’s barangays where 21,965 are males and 20,246 are females.
He stipulated that some 30139 registered SK voters actually casted their votes where 15,586 are males and 14,553 are females.
The provincial election officer said that those who cast their votes in the 18 to 30 years old bracket reached 27,323 while those who casted their votes in the 15 to 17 years old bracket totaled 2,816.
Lampac expressed hope that the high voter turnout among registered voters in the different parts of the province will continue in the upcoming mid-term and barangay and SK elections to ensure that those who will be elected into various offices will be the choice of the voters.
The new set of barangay and SK officials will only serve a 2-year term until December 2025 pursuant to the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) that declared as unconstitutional the law that postponed the December 2022 barangay and SK elections.
