LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Provincial board of Canvassers (PVOC) temporarily suspended the proclamation of incumbent Rep. Eric Yap as the duly re-elected Representative of the province’s one district to the House of Representatives following the filing of a petition for his disqualification anchored on the issue of his citizenship.
The PVOC chaired by Commission on Elections (Comelec) assistant regional director and concurrent Provincial election Supervisor for Baguio and Benguet lawyer Vanessa Roncal decided to suspend the proceedings while the aforesaid petition is pending resolution before the poll body.
The said petition for disqualification against Yap was filed at around 12:42 pm while the canvassing of votes for the province was coming to a close.
In an interview with members of the media, Yap said that he already submitted the pertinent documents relative to the issue of his citizenship and expressed confidence that the petition will just result to the delay on his proclamation as the winning candidate for Representative of the province’s lone district.
He claimed that he understands that the poll body is now bombarded with numerous petitions for disqualification that is why he is willing to wait for the decision of the poll body on the matter.
However, Yap said that since his present term will still be until June 30, 2025, he will still continue to serve as the province’s Representative of the province to the House of Representatives. HENT
